Commercial Flooring

Floor preparation, levelling and moisture management

The single most important factor in whether your commercial flooring installation lasts 20 years or fails in 18 months. 80% of flooring failures trace back to the subfloor. We handle everything beneath the finished floor: moisture barriers, underlay, self-levelling, grinding and substrate repairs.

What floor preparation includes

Moisture testing and barriers

In-situ relative humidity testing to Australian Standard AS 1884. Where thresholds are exceeded, we install epoxy or polyurethane moisture barriers to prevent vapour transmission damaging your finished floor.

Self-levelling compounds

Professional-grade self-levelling screeds achieve the flatness tolerances required by flooring manufacturers — typically 3mm over 3m for floating products and tighter for glue-down installations.

Concrete grinding and high-spot removal

Diamond grinding removes high spots, contaminants, old adhesive residue, coatings and weak laitance to create a flat, clean substrate ready for installation.

Underlay specification and installation

Acoustic underlay, moisture barrier underlay or combination products specified to match the flooring system, substrate type and building requirements.

Crack and joint repair

Existing cracks and joints repaired with flexible fillers or rigid epoxy. Control joints honoured or bridged depending on the flooring product.

Substrate repair and priming

Damaged or deteriorated concrete rebuilt with repair mortars. Correct primer seals substrate, controls porosity and improves adhesive bond strength.

When floor preparation is critical

  • Older commercial buildings with contaminated slabs
  • Ground-level slabs with rising damp or moisture vapour issues
  • Uneven substrates requiring self-levelling before flooring
  • Post-demolition substrates with adhesive residue and high spots
  • Multi-level buildings with transition tolerances between zones
  • Wet areas requiring waterproof membrane or moisture barrier systems

How we approach floor preparation

1

Assessment

Visual inspection, moisture testing to AS 1884, flatness survey with straight edge, and check for existing coatings and adhesives.

2

Specification

Preparation scope specified: grinding depth, self-levelling thickness, moisture barrier type, underlay product, and primer selection.

3

Execution

Diamond grinders and shot-blasters for high spots and profiling. Self-levelling compounds for flatness. Moisture barriers and underlay installed to manufacturer specifications.

4

Verification

Moisture levels re-tested, surface flatness verified, and primer or barrier cure confirmed before any flooring goes down.
